Sect on the profile
For Muslim profiles, sect is required. “Shia” is one option on the list, alongside Sunni, Deobandi, Barelvi, Ahl-e-Hadith and other; the list has no separate options within Shia. The answer is shown on every profile and on each suggestion card, next to caste.
Making it a boundary
Set “same sect only” as a deal-breaker and you are shown only profiles whose sect matches yours. Deal-breakers are never relaxed: if very few profiles fit, the matching may widen softer preferences such as age range or countries, but it does not touch this one.
Without the deal-breaker, sect neither hides anyone nor changes the order of your list. It is there for your family to read.
Reaching further
When a firm sect requirement makes the local pool small, the other settings are where to make room:
- Leave the country list open, or add every country you would accept — Pakistan, the Gulf, the UK, Europe, North America or Australia.
- Keep age and education ranges realistic, and mark only what truly matters as most important.
- Remember a profile from another city is not held back; your own city only adds a little ranking weight.
- Ask our team for help if you prefer. Staff can search for an exact sect on your behalf and send interest from your account.
Introducing your family
A parent can create the profile for a son or daughter from the start. A profile can carry an optional intro video, and when you ask the other family to share numbers you can also ask for a video introduction — useful when the families live in different cities or countries and want to see and hear each other before travelling.
Privacy for your family
Photos can be shown to everyone who sees the profile, only after both sides say yes, or to no one. ID papers are seen only by staff. Phone numbers typed into chat are removed, and numbers are shared through a request the other family must allow.
Questions
Can we be shown only Shia profiles?
Yes. With “Shia” on your own profile, set “same sect only” as a deal-breaker. Profiles with another sect are then never suggested.
Will a short list make the matching ignore our sect setting?
No. Only softer preferences are widened. Deal-breakers, religion, the marital statuses you chose and your answer on children never are.
Is the sect on a profile verified?
No. Staff check identity, photos and age; sect is as the family entered it. Confirm it with the other family, as with any rishta.
